Naugawan Sadat, the Proud Heart of India's Oldest Syed Community

Naugawan Khurd was founded in 948 A.H. (1541 A.D.) by Maulana Syed Fakhruddin, the son of Maulana Mohammad Imam, who is buried in Delhi and was the Sajjad Nashin of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia. According to Qari Sahab, the area originally known as Naugawan Kalan dates back to 820 A.H. (1417 A.D.). To the north lies Vazirabad, now known as Amroha. Maulana Fakhruddin and his brother Maulana Jalaluddin came to this region as Islamic preachers and were quite successful in their mission. Their descendants have since settled here, and the population has grown into the thousands, with many members migrating to different parts of the world.

There are many places to visit, including Husaini Chowk, Panjaitani Gate, Karbala, Mazar Maulana Fakhruddin in Kakrali, Mazar Maulana Jalaluddin in Belowale, Mazar Syed Moosa at Hafta Bazar, Mazar and Imambada Daulat Shaheed, Mazar Peer Shahabuddin (Bhure Peer), Mazar Kaudiyawale in Naher Nai Basti, Madarsa Babul Ilm in Shahfreed, Budh Bazar (a famous weekly market), Mangal Bazar (an animal market), and Islam Nagar.

The majority of Sadat in Naugawan Sadat trace their lineage back to the fourth Imam, Zainul Abedin (as), belonging to the Abdi branch. Others in the community are of Zaidi and Naqvi descent. This heritage, linked to the family of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, that is why the town is known as Naugawan Sadat.

The genealogy of the Sadat community was originally written by Qari Syed Ali Husain Sahab and then compiled by Maulana Ansar Husain Sajid Sahab in 1964. Recently, it has been updated and recompiled by Syed Shoeb Raza Abdi, son of Tahir Raza, in Bandra, Bombay (India), with contributions from the original author and recent data gathered by Syed Tanveerul Hasan Abdi in Delhi.

The compilation of the Shajra is nearing completion, with ongoing verifications of names from the community in Naugawan Sadat. Those who have not yet submitted their names are encouraged to do so through our form.
